We have been working with the Touriga Nacional grapes grown by the Luchsinger Family since 2009 to produce our Arnot-Roberts Rosé. The Luchsinger vineyard is planted on a rocky alluvial plain at 1,400' elevation in the Big Valley region west of Kelseyville. Touriga Nacional is a late ripening variety that efficiently holds onto it's acidity in a warm climate making it a great fit for this site. Traditionally yields have been up to around 5 tons per acre and cluster morphology exhibits long, cylindrical bunches of loosely spaced, thick-skinned berries. Clear Lake is proving to be a great match for farming Touriga with low humidity and fantastic airflow drainage patterns due to the proximity of the nearby Mayacamas Mountains. In the cellar we have seen characteristic primary fruit flavors of melon and stone fruit that are overlayed by savory notes of dried herbs, chaparral and earthy minerality. The rosé wines we have made to date seem to possess all of these components and finish with a hint of salinity that adds to the refreshing quality that we prize.
Duncan Arnot Meyers was born and raised in the Napa Valley graduating from Vintage High School in 1990. Duncan earned a degree in physiology from Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado then returned to California to study viticulture at both Napa Valley College and UC Davis.
Arnot-Roberts was founded in 2002 in Healdsburg with childhood friend Nathan Roberts, a master cooper, and started with four barrels of wine. Production has slowly grown to 7000 cases with 16 wines sourced from vineyards from the Santa Cruz Mountains to the Sonoma Coast. Arnot-Roberts winery is located in Healdsburg, CA and the wines are sold via mailing list and through distribution in 16 states and 7 foreign countries.
